Action Alerts

The New York Statewide Systems Advocacy Network is a network of individuals committed to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities by safeguarding their rights as human beings and as members of society. It promotes the philosophy and vision of the Independent Living movement both within the disability community and the general public.

Independent Living means taking control of your own life, taking responsibility for your actions, taking risks, and either failing or succeeding on your own terms. It means participating in community life and pursuing activities based entirely on self-determined interests and preferences.

Periodically, New York Association for Independent Living (NYAIL) will issue an Action Alert that reports a specific need, and recommends an action you can take to help meet that need. Usually, that action is an email or phone call to an elected government official's office asking the official to vote a certain way on a piece of legislation; sometimes the contact will be with a business entity asking for an accommodation or a change in policy.
